Greenhouse, wood, polyethylene, tree stumps, speakers, amplifier, audio, 10’ x 7’, 2019 is a geodesic sound installation housing one of the curated, intergenerational conversations held during this project. It served as a listening hub and trans-futurist spaceship, with three tree stump seats representing each of the three generations heard in the conversation. Visitors could enter, sit or stand, inside the circular dwelling, and enter the recorded conversation.

Eli Brown’s practice revolves around learning trans-ness as a lineage, and as an evolutionary phenomenon that is not always human. He facilitates intergenerational communication between transgender and gender non-conforming people, and intervenes with “trans” species, such as fungi possessing 28,000 sexes or with symbiotic, interspecies fermentation processes, such as those that occur between yeast and bacteria. His research is both experiential and rooted in queer ecologies, which bridges queer theory and environmental science and challenges the problematic foundations of evolutionary biology and speciesism which continue to inform our bodily experiences. theelimachine.net
