Joanna Rivera is a South American transgender woman. Joanna began her transition at the age of 15 through black market hormones and had to leave home upon coming out due to her parents being Jehova's Witnesses and not accepting of her identity. Joanna is currently the Interim Site Manager for SAGE Stonewall Center, connected to Stonewall Housing - NYC's first LGBT friendly senior housing. Joanna has also worked in various roles in Non-profits ranging from Peer Health Educator to Director of Transgender Services at an LGBT youth center. Joanna loves working with the transgender community and hopes to someday lead a Non-profit that provides safe spaces for the transgender community - spaces created by members of the community for members of the community.
